This is the catalogue of the Arlene Hall Collection of Japanese Photography which was exhibited at the Art Gallery of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada. Taken entirely from the Arlene Hall Collection the exhibition ran from April 4 - June 7, 2009. More than 230 photographs from the early 1860s to the late 1890s are displayed. Artists include Felix Beato, Baron Stillfried, Kusakabe Kimbei, Esaki Reiji, Adolfo Farsari, Ogawa Kazumasa and many others. In its entirety, the Hall Collection consists of over 800 different images, making it one of the largest in the world. It was compiled over a forty-year period. The catalogue includes more than 100 coloured illustrations and also contains an essay by Terry Bennett titled: 'Japanese Photography From Daguerreotypes To Souvenir Albums.' 21.5 x 27cm, 144 pages, as new.
