Published in December 2010, this 51-page colour catalogue has a mixture of 30 old and new items. Highlights include an album of 122 photographs by the early pictorialist Walter J. Clutterbuck dated 1898; a classic Felix Beato album of 51 large-format photographs; two extremely rare small-format albums of photographs from the Yamamoto studio, each with printed studio labels; a very good album of uncloured large-format photographs by Usui Shusaburo; two 1863 panoramas of Yokohama by Felix Beato taken shortly after his arrival in Japan; a group of small-format photographs by Frederick Sutton and circle; a magnificent 1864 Felix Beato album of 20 photographs of the Shimonoseki Conflict, including panoramas and a rare 5-part portrait series of armoured samurai (see front cover as an example); 17 mammoth-plate photographs of Japan by Charles Weed, taken in 1867 - the largest-known group in private or institutional collections and of major historical importance.
